Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve
Located just outside Raleigh in Wake Forest, Horseshoe Farm Nature Preserve is one of my favorite hidden gems for family photography.
This location features wide open fields, tall grasses, wooded paths, and beautiful natural light during golden hour. The landscape changes throughout the seasons, making it an excellent location for both spring and fall family sessions.
What makes Horseshoe Farm especially great for family photos is the amount of space it offers. Kids can run and explore while we capture natural interactions and playful moments between family members.
Annie Louise Wilkerson, MD Nature Preserve Park
Another beautiful outdoor location for family photos is Annie Louise Wilkerson Preserve.
This preserve offers a mix of open grassy areas, walking trails, and natural scenery that creates a relaxed and timeless backdrop for family photography. The property also features a historic farmhouse and charming fences that add subtle character to photos without feeling overly busy.
Because of the variety of backdrops available here, Annie Louise Wilkerson Preserve works well for families who want a natural Raleigh setting with a little variety throughout their gallery.
Historic Oak View County Park
If you love locations with a little history and charm, Historic Oak View County Park is a beautiful option.
This park features historic buildings, white fences, large oak trees, and open grassy areas that create a classic Southern feel. The textures and architectural elements add interest while still keeping the focus on your family.
Oak View is especially beautiful in the late afternoon when the light filters through the trees, creating soft, warm tones that photograph beautifully.
North Carolina Museum of Art Park
The outdoor park surrounding the North Carolina Museum of Art is another fantastic location for family photography.
